Ballheads

The World Series is an interesting event because I know very little about it. I have some friends who are very involved in the sport, but I myself am not really into baseball. Despite this, I find myself supporting the Phillies, partly because I like It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Not a very good reason, I know, but it’s a reason nonetheless. I also have no connection to the Yankees other than a friend of mine who’s a super fan, which makes it all the more fun to say “Go Phillies!” and watch him squirm. All in all, I’m not invested in baseball; it’s not really my thing. I even find it difficult to watch tennis despite it being my main sport.

And damn, I just saw that the Yankees won. Not cool. Now I have to listen to my Yankee friend talk about them all day. I can’t even name a player either team except for A-rod, and I’m pretty sure that’s not his real name.

This friend and I polar opposite taste in movies, and before I go further, I want to make it clear that I’m NOT talking about Nathan.

So this friend and I have our differences but we can agree sometimes, but this man likes “flicks” while I like movies. It must come as no surprise to anyone that when he said that, and I quote “We have to see Paranormal Activity!

I was not that excited.

Personally I don’t really like scary movies that much as most of them these days tend to be pretty bad in my opinion. They always seem to lack good writing or cinematography. There are a few exceptions like 28 Days Later, which most people these days wouldn’t even classify as a scary movie. So I don’t care for scary movies, but my buddy, on the other hand, loves them. What really surprised me was that Paranormal Activity has been getting relatively good reviews, one thing my buddy’s favorite movies tend to lack. Still, I don’t really want to see it anyway, mainly because my friend recommended it.

To tell the truth, I’m always getting my balls busted by my friends who tell me I have bad movie taste. The thing about me is I like movies, not “flicks.” I would prefer to see a movie like The Hurt Locker rather than a piece of crap like GI Joe, but still I get the bad end of the stick. I like quality writing, directing, acting, music and cinematography, all of which make up a good movie. I also tend to see a wider variety of movies then the average person, for instance, I often enjoy foreign films, and I don’t have a problem with subtitles. This is kind of ironic because I’m a really slow reader, more so than most of my friends, yet they cant stand them.

The ball busting problem happens when I see a movie with them. Take Sex Drive, a movie that was okay at best with some humorous parts that made it entertaining, but it was not a memorable film. No one in their right mind would purchase it because it is not something that can stand the test of time. Yet when I challenged my friends claims that it was the “Best Movie Ever,” they said I had bad taste. Oh well, whether one likes a movie or not comes down to personal preference in the end I guess.
