Easy Violations (Part 2)

In this household, it is pretty easy to do things wrong. Which means if the rules are easy to violate, then it is incredibly simple to really screw things up.

If you have been following my Twitter, (which you don’t, so screw you guys), you might have seen that I put this tweet out:

“Need to draw a teen girl or a teenage-looking girl for next week’s comic. Any womenfolk care to be comickized? Tweet, comment, or email.”

See? You totally could have filled the role, granted that you at least looked teenage and female. The role was quickly snatched up, faster than I was expecting. This gave me further inspiration to give a call out to all teenage-looking people . . . female as well as male. In short, I could describe what happened, but I think it would be easier to show you:

See that? See what you are missing out on. That could have been you (provided you are young-looking). This is not ageism though! These were necessary to the context of the comic! Who knows? Maybe sometime it could be you! So basically, you can keep an eye on my Twitter in the upper right part of this section, you can follow along here. I post exciting and thrilling things, which can be viewed at your own personal discretion!

Also, the Twitter contains exciting comic updates! So you can be alerted the moment a comic is uploaded. Think about it: you can set Twitter to phone alerts so that your phone will buzz at an unholy hour when the comic goes up, and you can jump out of bed and stumble blindly to your computer to view the latest comic offering. (Typos and errors are most commonly found after I post, so you can point them out and feel superior!)

As I discussed in last week’s post, the Eyeskream art contest is still in the works. I sent the print priority down to Portland for Noah to sign, on Thursday . . . IT HAS STILL NOT ARRIVED. This fills me with rage, and of course, the only person I can blame at this time is Noah. I insist that he “check his mail better,” and if he is “sure it didn’t come.” Still nothing, dammit.

Oh, and an update on the prizes: the Pillow t-shirt is now a Large, no adjustable sizes. I am sorry, if it were me you would receive a shirt of your choice size stuffed with candy, and quite possibly a baby koala (alive of course). Unfortunately, Eyeskream manager Erik Bouchard hates you and wants to suffer, so you are doomed to have a shirt that is either too small or too big . . . or just right, if you happen to be a Large.

Again, the details of the contest involve drawing a comic in which you give a creative origin of the Eyeskream mascot Skreamie. The comic can be black and white, grayscale, color, any number of panels (including one). The only limit is that it must be submitted digitally, so you will have to find a way to scan, or take a picture of your art. I highly, highly encourage any Good in Theory readers to participate, even if you don’t think you can draw. Sketch your awesome idea out with stick figures, make a crazy collage, paint a picture, or get someone who can draw to do help you! If you do, you can still get:

-A one of a kind (sorta) Pillow T-shirt!

-A contest exclusive print (signed) as well as the original print pencils (signed by artist, me)!

-Drawn into the comic as a secondary character (take a look at Annie in this week’s comic, that could be you!)

Pictures of the prizes found in the same post I have already linked a few times.

Eyeskream should update with full contest details sometime soon. I will also update as soon as I know, and will even put out a tweet!

Well, surgery again. Which is now becoming somewhat of a routine occurrence. This will about the seventh time I have had surgery, and best of all, it will be the most hardcore. So I thought last surgery was pretty badass: one knock-out, and both lungs operated on. This one almost tops it, at least in number of cuts made: first off, right lung operated on, then the tip of scapula will be clipped off, and then a little sliver of my tibia chopped out.

For those of you who have to be sedated before going to the dentist, the idea of this kind of surgery may kind of freak you out. Let me assure you, I have this thing down to a science. No, an art. Let me walk you through it: (times not exact)

10:00am: Arrive at the hospital, sign in, sit in a waiting area and fiddle with iPod Touch. Try to ignore the hunger from not eating, and the filthy, yowling children.

10:45am: Be beckoned to the back. Walk down there, making awkward small talk with some random guy whose job it is to fetch people all day.

10:55am: Receive gown and robe.

10:58am: Relish not wearing pants and the liberating freedom that comes with it.

11:00am: Talk to a huge number of people who will be asking you the same questions over and over, and you have to tell them the same things over and over.

12:10pm: Go back to the operating room place, where the plan is to be unconscious. Remove robe and lay bare-assed on a table.

12:13pm: Get crazy happy gas, which brings out the rhythm and music in simple conversation.

12:15pm: “This wont hurt.” LIES!’

12:16pm: Nooooo! Dey be takin’ mah gas!

12:16pm: “We’re going to count back from ten, you will be asleep before we reach 0.”

“Oh, I’ll show them I-”

. . . . . .

??:??pm: Uh . . .oh . . . whazza?

. . . . .

??:??pm: Wha? Where? Pain!

. . . . .

??:??pm: “On a scale of one to ten, what’s your pain?”

“TEN BITCH! TEN” (- I don’t actually call the nurses, “bitches.”)

Mmmmm . . . morphine.

And that’s pretty much the surgery experience, I spend the next few days feeling like crap and absolutely soaring on morphine. Fun things to do while on morphine?

-Watch ten hours of TV and don’t remember a minute of it.

-Call a friend and talk for an hour, and don’t remember a word you said.

-Only remember sounds, not what you saw.

-Write emails with unknown messages.

-Hallucinate.

It’s a good time, actually, after the terrible part involving pain, and/or vomiting. That part isn’t so cool. So for the next week or so, I plan on being continually (and legally) high as a kite. I’ll try to write a post for next week’s comic, maybe I will remember it.

Oh, and here are several topics of discussion that I have been meaning to write for awhile now:

Inking tutorial: This one was requested a looooong time ago, by a person that would comment on a now closed forum. Not sure if they are still around, but I have the software to record, and it’s just a matter of sitting down and putting something together.

Poop in Bed: Still updates Fridays, right here on this blog, usually at the bottom of Joel’s posts. It’s fun stuff, you should check it out if you haven’t, and there is no defecating on beds, it’s just a stupid name. I am going to be putting up a site for it sometime in the near future, where the comics will be archived, and thus be easier to read if you have missed one. Also, I am going to start an email notification list for PiB to run alongside the Good in Theory notification list. This list sends an email to you the moment the comic is updated, and also sometimes, sometimes contains some information that you don’t get here on the site. (Rarely though, it’s mostly just a reminder).

So if you are interested in joining that list, send an email to goodintheorycomic@gmail.com with something like “Notification” in the subject and then just, “git,” “pib,”, or “both,” so I can know when to send you updates.
Also: links opening in new windows . . . I am not a fan, and I find links that open new windows to be annoying. You can right-click and select “open in New Window,” or get with the times and start using tab browsing.

See you in a week!

-Nathan

Love me, PLLLLLEEEEEASE!
